Fire protection expert, Leonard Ramo, has been appointed to the University of Maryland Department of Fire Protection Engineering Board of Visitors.
The Board plays a pivotal role in aiding the Department achieve recognition and support in fire protection engineering (FPE) research and education.
Additionally, members act as intermediaries between industry, government, and other academic bodies.
The University of Maryland stands out as it provides the only fully accredited fire protection engineering undergraduate program in the country.
Moreover, it’s among the mere three graduate programs available nationwide.
On his selection, Ramo expressed: “It’s an honor to be selected as a member of the Board of Visitors. Together, the Board advises the Department on a diverse range of important issues from strategic planning to corporate relations, fundraising initiatives to communications strategies.

His roles have varied from being a fire protection engineer and consultant to an executive.

Beyond his direct career accomplishments, he has actively contributed to international fire codes and standards, with involvement in key National Fire Protection Association committees and memberships in various fire and engineering societies.
