The União dos Militares Mineiros (UMMG) held a ceremony on Thursday 26 June to award the Lieutenant-Colonel João Batista de Assis medal, in honor of The Minas Gerais Military Fire Department (CBMMG) Veterans Day in Brazil.
The event took place at the Academia de Bombeiros Militar (ABM) and marked the beginning of the celebrations for Firefighters’ Week. During the ceremony, medals were awarded to sixteen honorees, at the gold, silver and bronze levels.
The General Commander of the Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais, Colonel Jordana de Oliveira Filgueiras Daldegan, spoke about the importance of UMMG, in the person of veteran BM Colonel José Honorato Ameno, in the tireless mission of preserving, valuing and defending the rights, memory and dignity of veterans.
She also praised the honored military personnel, reinforcing the need to cultivate a culture of institutional appreciation and its values.
The Colonel shared: “Time passes, generations are renewed, but the principles that support the Military Fire Department remain unshakeable, thanks to our veterans.
“Each one here represents more than a position or a function, they represent a living history.”
The Lieutenant Colonel João Batista de Assis Medal was established by decree in 2007 and is intended to honor military firefighters, as well as personalities and institutions that have provided relevant services to the Military Union and the Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais.
