YWCA Metropolitan Chicago hosts 2024 Leader Luncheon

Jennifer Scanlon, president and CEO of UL Solutions, received the 2024 Outstanding Leader in Business award at the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago’s Leader Luncheon.

The event, held on October 25 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, was attended by over 1,000 participants. The theme of the 52nd annual luncheon was “She the People,” highlighting women leaders dedicated to driving economic change and advancing opportunities for others.

Nicole Robinson, CEO of YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, shared in an open letter that the honorees represent individuals who challenge barriers and create opportunities for others through their leadership and contributions to their communities.

Jennifer Scanlon’s contributions to diversity and inclusion

In her role at UL Solutions, Scanlon has actively supported diversity and inclusion initiatives.

She has backed the company’s Business Resource Groups (BRGs), which include groups like the Women in Leadership BRG, Black BRG, Latino BRG, Pride (LGBTQ+) BRG, and Disability Alliance BRG.

Scanlon is also involved in fostering leadership development through internship programs, often engaging directly with interns to share her insights.

During the event, Scanlon noted similarities between UL Solutions and the YWCA in their missions: “We both work very hard to make the world a safer and more secure place for everyone.”

Other honorees at the event

Several leaders were recognized alongside Scanlon. Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun received the Trailblazer Award. Lisa Duarte was honored as the Outstanding Civic Leader.

Dorothy Tucker and the CBS Chicago Investigating Injustice Team were named Outstanding Racial Justice Leaders.
