As of October 2023, UL Solutions announced that 55 of its facilities have been recognized as Testing Sites under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) Program in the United States.
This development includes 42 facilities that were part of the Satellite Notification and Acceptance Program (SNAP), now integrated under UL LLC within the NRTL Program’s Scope of Recognition.
The NRTL program is instrumental for testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) providers like UL Solutions, allowing them to certify a range of products used in U.S.
This recognition is poised to bolster UL Solutions’ ability to serve its customers, including both domestic and international product manufacturers.
The emphasis lies in aiding these manufacturers to comprehend local market dynamics and navigate the product certification process.
The range of products extends from essential safety equipment to micromobility devices and various other materials and goods used by American workers.
Rick Titus, the accreditation manager at UL Solutions, expressed satisfaction with OSHA’s approval of their application to convert the 42 SNAP sites to Recognized Testing Sites.
This decision by OSHA is seen as a critical step in enabling UL LLC to continue operating its now 55 Recognized Testing Sites worldwide.
This expansion is aimed at assisting customers in demonstrating the safety of their products in U.S.
SNAP was introduced by OSHA in 2009, allowing approved NRTLs to conduct specific certification activities at designated sites.
In November 2020, OSHA announced the termination of SNAP, which necessitated the transition of these sites to the NRTL Program.
UL Solutions emphasized the importance of providing quick and local access to certification services for its customers.
The company remains committed to supporting its customers seamlessly through this transition to NRTL-Recognized Testing Sites, ensuring no disruption in services.
The recent recognition of 55 UL Solutions facilities by OSHA as NRTL-Recognized Testing Sites is a notable advancement in the field of safety and certification.
This development not only expands the capabilities of UL Solutions but also significantly impacts the landscape of product testing and certification in the United States.
With the integration of the 42 SNAP sites, UL Solutions is now better positioned to assist manufacturers in navigating the complexities of product safety standards and certification requirements.
This move is particularly beneficial for international manufacturers aiming to penetrate the U.S. market, as it offers a deeper insight into local market conditions and regulatory frameworks.
