Oshkosh Airport Products delivers state-of-the-art fire and rescue vehicles to Mexico’s newest airport

The Tulum International Airport in Quintana Roo, Mexico, has recently enhanced its emergency response capabilities with the acquisition of three advanced Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles from Oshkosh Airport Products.

This move comes as a significant step in fortifying the safety measures of the airport, which opened in December 2023.

Tulum International Airport’s commitment to safety

The newly established Tulum International Airport, officially named Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Carrillo Puerto, is situated 20 kilometers southwest of the Tulum urban area.

The airport’s commitment to modernizing and expanding its aviation infrastructure is evident in its choice of emergency response equipment.

Prior to this, Oshkosh Airport Products had supplied five Striker 6×6 trucks with high-reach extendable turrets to Felipe Ángeles International Airport, which opened in March 2022.

The consistent partnership between Oshkosh and the Mexican airports underscores the trust in Oshkosh products for crucial aviation operations.

Advanced features of the Striker ARFF vehicles

The delivery includes two Striker 4×4 and one Striker 6×6 ARFF vehicles, each equipped with a 50′ Snozzle® and designed to handle the unique environmental challenges of Southeast Mexico.

Key features include the Oshkosh TAK-4® Independent Suspension system and an advanced cooling system, ensuring durability and comfort under various conditions.

Additional features include a Scania DC16 V8 670 hp Tier 4F engine, an ergonomically designed cab, and a Command Zone™ advanced electronics system.

Robert Colon, Associate Manager of International Sales – Latin America at Oshkosh Airport Products, stated: “After a comprehensive evaluation of all products available in the market, airport leaders recognized the Oshkosh Striker ARFF as the superior choice for performance and support, especially given the demanding environmental conditions of Southeast Mexico.”

He also highlighted the importance of the HRET on a Striker 4×4 ARFF vehicle and the commitment of their local dealer, Autobuses Especializados SA de CV, in supporting the ARFF crews’ training and service needs.

Oshkosh’s ongoing support for Mexican aviation safety

Colon further added: “Ensuring the safety and efficiency of airport operations is our paramount concern, and we are honored to support Tulum International Airport’s mission with our advanced Striker vehicles.

“We look forward to continuing to support the Mexican market and local agencies.”
