San Diego Fire-Rescue joins Toys for Tots campaign

San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) will begin its 2024 Toys for Tots campaign on Wednesday, November 20.

The program is conducted in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots initiative.

SDFD, which has supported the program for over two decades, will collect new, unwrapped toys and books at its fire stations and select lifeguard stations.

Donations will be accepted until Friday, December 20.

Toys for Tots legacy continues

Toys for Tots has been a holiday tradition since 1947.

The program aims to provide gifts to children in need, fostering positive memories during the holiday season.

Over its 75-year history, it has reached millions of children.

Fire Chief Robert Logan highlighted the department’s enthusiasm for the initiative: “Our employees look forward to this time of year so they can participate in bringing holiday cheer to kids and families in need.”

Details of the kickoff event

The drive’s launch event will occur at the SDFD Training Facility, located at 2581 Kincaid Road, San Diego.

Media are invited to attend on Wednesday, November 20, from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m.

The event will feature visual displays, including toys, U.S. Marine Corps representatives, fire cadets, and fire apparatus.

Directions to the site include taking Interstate 5 to North Harbor Drive, proceeding to McCain Road, and parking along the red curb near the facility.

How the community can participate

SDFD invites the public to contribute to the campaign by donating new toys or books at designated collection points.

Contributions from individuals and businesses can help bring holiday cheer to children who might otherwise go without.

The Toys for Tots program relies on community engagement to achieve its goals each year, with volunteers and donors playing a vital role in its success.
