The Township of Langley Fire Department (TLFD) in British Columbia, Canada, has announced the purchase of a new fleet of fire apparatus.
This acquisition was facilitated by Pierce Manufacturing Inc. and MAXIMETAL, both subsidiaries of Oshkosh Corporation, and sold through Pierce’s dealer, Commercial Emergency Equipment.
The fleet comprises both stock and custom-built vehicles designed to meet the diverse needs of the department.
The decision to standardize the apparatus is aimed at reducing repair time, simplifying training, and improving overall efficiency, as reported by Pierce Manufacturing.
The new fleet includes a variety of apparatus, ranging from stock MAXI Saber Pumpers to custom-built Pierce Enforcer vehicles.
The fleet consists of three stock MAXI Saber Pumpers, three custom MAXI Saber Pumpers, one Pierce Stock Enforcer Non-Walk-In Heavy-Duty Rescue, one Enforcer Ascendant 100’ Heavy-Duty Tower, one Enforcer Ascendant 107’ Heavy-Duty Ladder, and two MAXIMETAL Ford F550 Mini Pumpers.
These vehicles are expected to enhance the department’s ability to respond to a wide range of emergency situations.
Mike Feduniw, sales manager for the West at Commercial Emergency Equipment, highlighted the significance of this purchase: “This project demonstrates our ability as Canada’s largest emergency apparatus dealer to respond to customer needs by leveraging multiple product lines within the Oshkosh Corporation family and coordinating efforts across three production facilities.”
TLFD Fire Chief Jason de Roy emphasized the importance of the ongoing partnership with Pierce and MAXIMETAL, noting the positive impact their equipment has had on the department’s operations.
He stated: “Just over ten years ago, our department moved to Pierce fire apparatus for our aerials and also purchased a pumper to evaluate Pierce engines, which have become revered by our first responders for their performance and reliability.”
He further added that the recent fleet purchase reaffirms the department’s confidence in the quality and value of the apparatus provided by Pierce and MAXIMETAL.
The Township of Langley Fire Department operates seven halls and is expected to handle approximately 9,000 calls in 2024.
The department serves a rapidly growing community of 150,000 residents across a 122-square-mile area within the Metro Vancouver Regional District.
To meet the increasing demand, the department, which currently has around 200 firefighters, plans to recruit an additional 33 firefighters by 2027.
