The Ministry of Energy and Environment participated in first AFE meeting

The Mendoza government in Argentina, through the Ministry of Energy and Environment, participated in the first meeting of the Federal Council of the Federal Emergency Agency (AFE), which brought together representatives from all provinces in Buenos Aires to unify criteria and plans for risk management across the country.

The working group was attended by the Director of Hydraulics of Mendoza, Pablo Rodríguez and the Coordinator of the Provincial Fire Management Plan, Diego Martí.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, along with the Executive Director of the AFE (Federal Agency for the Protection of Fires), Santiago Hardie and the Deputy Executive Director, Ignacio Cabello.

It brought together representatives from all Argentine provinces, security forces, the National Volunteer Firefighters System, as well as authorities from scientific and technical organizations and key government departments.

At this first Council meeting, the coordination of the federal councils for Integrated Risk Management and Fire Management was consolidated, with the goal of strengthening local capacities, improving disaster response times, and advancing joint planning of human, technical and logistical resources.

Rodríguez stated: “Mendoza’s participation in this meeting reaffirms its commitment and ongoing work on water management and forest fires, issues in which the province has been developing active prevention and planning policies.”

The creation of the Federal Emergency Management Agency represents a step toward a unified and coordinated response by the national government and the provinces to extreme events such as floods, fires, earthquakes and other catastrophes.

The AFE’s main mission is to organize and optimize direct assistance and lead the deployment of human and material resources in all phases of risk management, working in coordination with jurisdictions to protect the lives, property and environment of Argentines.

Also participating in the event, representing the Ministry of National Security, were Matías Mink, the National Director of Sinagir; Fernando Molas, the Director of Volunteer Firefighters; Martín Guerra, the Director of Operations and Logistics; and Jorge Heider, the Director of Prevention.

They presented lines of action aimed at strengthening field work and supporting the provinces in implementing increasingly effective response systems.
