Tennessee American Water introduces financial assistance for local fire departments

July 17, 2024

Support for local fire departments in Georgia and Tennessee

Tennessee American Water has announced the launch of its Firefighting Support grant program.

This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to uniformed, professional, and volunteer fire departments within the company’s service territories.

These territories include Ft. Oglethorpe and Catoosa County in Georgia and Signal Mountain in Tennessee.

The grant program is designed to help fire departments cover costs associated with personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, and training-related activities and materials.

Applications must clearly indicate the need for funds to be eligible.

Details of the grant program

The maximum grant amount available to each fire department or district is $1,000.

Fire departments are eligible for one grant per calendar year.

Tennessee American Water encourages regional or countywide applications to ensure that the limited grant funds benefit the maximum number of fire organizations.

Tennessee American Water has specified that only uniformed, professional, and volunteer fire departments serving their designated service areas, including sale-for-resale communities, are eligible to receive funding.

No grants will be made to individuals.

Application requirements and eligibility

Grant applications should detail the intended use of the funds, whether for personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, or training activities and materials.

Reimbursement for specific fire training classes, including costs for training manuals and student workbooks, is also eligible.

Tennessee American Water emphasizes that the funds are limited, and they encourage collaboration among fire departments to maximize the benefit of the grants.

This collaborative approach aims to enhance community fire protection efforts across the designated service areas.
