Ray Dotts, a fire protection expert from Telgian Engineering & Consulting, will present a Fire Smarts webinar titled “Carbon Monoxide Detection Requirements” on August 8, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm ET.

Dotts brings over 40 years of experience in fire alarm design and installation to this presentation.

He holds fire alarm licenses in multiple states, is a Level IV NICET Certified Fire Alarm Technician, and is board certified as a Physical Security Professional by ASIS.

His extensive background includes conducting large-scale fire alarm projects for various commercial, educational, hospitality, and multi-family residential buildings.

“Any fuel burning appliance, vehicle, tool or other device has the potential to produce dangerous levels of CO gas.”

Key topics of the webinar

During the webinar, Dotts will provide an overview of CO detection requirements based on NFPA 72, the Standard for the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.

The session will cover common requirements for both new and existing commercial structures, as well as the initial acceptance testing requirements contained in the standards.

Participants will learn about the impact of building codes and NFPA 72 requirements on CO detection systems and the increasing adoption and enforcement of these standards.

Dotts will discuss the integration of NFPA 720 with NFPA 72, explaining the format and chapter layout of NFPA 72 and the specific inspection and testing requirements for CO detection systems.

Practical knowledge for attendees

At the conclusion of the presentation, attendees will gain an understanding of the scope and purpose of the merged NFPA 720 and NFPA 72 standards.

They will also be able to explain the format and chapter layout of NFPA 72, describe the inspection and testing requirements for CO detection systems, and learn how to properly record and document all inspections, tests, and maintenance of CO detection systems.

Dotts’ extensive experience and credentials ensure that participants will receive comprehensive and practical knowledge on CO detection requirements and standards.
