Telgian to host Commodity Classifications for Fire Sprinkler Design webinar

Telgian Engineering & Consulting has announced that Tracey Bellamy, Chief Engineering Officer will present a Fire Smarts webinar on the 22 January 2026 from 2:00-3:30 pm ET.

Determining the appropriate commodity classification

This course will explore the important and necessary effort to determine the appropriate commodity classification for a stored item.

This will include a review of the actual definitions for each commodity presented in NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’ along with consideration of potential variations that might exist with both FM 8-1 and the IFC.

The application of the definitions will be discussed along with key limitations and the use of the associated Annex materials for appropriate commodity classification.

A variety of examples will be provided to illustrate the process of classification including the use of intermediate-scale testing.

Tracey Bellamy’s professional background

Tracey Bellamy has more than 35 years’ experience in fire protection engineering and is Chief Engineering Officer at Telgian Engineering & Consulting.

He has extensive experience with fire suppression system design, fire hazard analysis and fire protection system inspection and testing. 

Tracey is licensed as a Professional Engineer in 49 US states and a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) as well as a Certified Water Based System Professional.

He has been recognized as a Fellow by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers for his distinguished body of work.

He is Chair of NFPA 11 and 15 and serves on several additional NFPA technical and correlating committees including NFPA 1, 13, 25, 30, 30B, 101 and 5000 (building code) as well as being a member of the NFPA Standards Council.
