Teledyne FLIR introduces upgraded camera system for drone operations

Teledyne FLIR, a part of Teledyne Technologies, has announced the release of its new Vue TV128+ camera module, designed for use with the Teledyne FLIR SIRAS™ uncrewed aerial system (UAS).

The Vue TV128+ offers improved thermal sensitivity and performance, making it suitable for first responder missions and industrial inspections.

As reported by Teledyne FLIR, the camera module includes a 128x zoom, 16-megapixel visible camera paired with a 640×512 FLIR Boson®+ thermal camera.

The system integrates into a quick-connect gimbal, providing operators with a versatile solution for various environments, offering thermal sensitivity of ≤20 mK for enhanced clarity and sharpness in both day and night conditions.

Key features of the Vue TV128+ module

The new Vue TV128+ includes advanced imaging technology.

The Boson+ thermal camera, featured in the module, is an uncooled longwave infrared (LWIR) system, which enhances thermal sensitivity.

It also incorporates Teledyne FLIR’s patented MSX® Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging software.

MSX overlays visible light details onto thermal images, adding edge and outline clarity to the thermal readings without compromising thermal image transparency.

“The Vue TV128+ provides an even more advanced dual visible and thermal camera solution,” said Mike Walters, Vice President of Teledyne FLIR.

He added: “Enhanced thermal visibility, especially in low-contrast environments, is a must-have tool for inspectors and public safety professionals.”

Applications of the Vue TV128+ camera for drone operators

The Vue TV128+ camera module is designed to handle a variety of operational needs.

With its IP54-rated rugged design, it is built to endure challenging environments, making it ideal for both real-time decision-making and post-flight processing.

The device is suitable for applications such as firefighting, law enforcement, search and rescue operations, and industrial inspections, including utility infrastructure checks.

The module is available as part of the SIRAS drone bundle or as a standalone product.

Purchase options and availability

According to Teledyne FLIR, the Vue TV128+ can be purchased either with the SIRAS drone or as a separate camera payload.

This flexibility allows professional users to upgrade their current systems or invest in a new drone package tailored to specific operational requirements.

The company has highlighted that the Vue TV128+ supports various missions, ensuring efficient data collection and processing during critical tasks.
