Fire prevention program begins in Louisiana

SageSure has announced the launch of a fire prevention program in Louisiana in collaboration with Whisker Labs/

The company said eligible policyholders in the state will receive a Ting electrical sensor, fire safety app access, and repair support at no cost.

The Ting system identifies electrical fire risks in home wiring, appliances and utility connections, alerting residents and guiding them through repairs.

SageSure stated the program aims to prevent incidents before they occur, adding to its broader set of property protection tools.

According to SageSure, approximately 20 percent of its fire-related claims are linked to electrical issues.

SageSure and Whisker Labs collaboration explained

The company described the new initiative as part of a broader strategy to support clients in catastrophe-prone areas.

Paul VanderMarck, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at SageSure, said: “SageSure is proud to enhance our suite of solutions with an electrical fire prevention program proven to make homes safer and more resilient.”

He added: “Fires are one of the most costly and devastating events a homeowner may face, and approximately 20% of SageSure’s fire claims are the result of electrical hazards.”

He continued: “We look forward to partnering with our producers to help our policyholders reduce electrical fire risk and protect their families.”

SageSure confirmed the fire prevention service will initially focus on Louisiana but is expected to expand to other states.

Whisker Labs, which developed the Ting device, has deployed the technology in over 1 million homes across the U.S., according to its co-founder.

Functionality of the Ting fire detection system

Ting is a plug-in sensor designed to detect electrical faults before they lead to fire.

Whisker Labs explained that the sensor works in conjunction with a mobile app to provide alerts and step-by-step guidance when hazards are found.

The firm said the system monitors home wiring, utility service connections, and device-level usage.

In addition to fire risk detection, the sensor can alert homeowners to power outages and assist in identifying issues that may cause frozen pipes.

According to SageSure, eligible policyholders will receive up to three years of monitoring and $1,000 in credit for repairs related to fire risks detected by Ting.

Perspective from insurance and distribution partners

Distribution partner Hartwig Moss Insurance Agency welcomed the program as an added layer of client service.

Dick Gibbs, Vice President of Sales at Hartwig Moss Insurance Agency, said: “We are proud to offer Ting to our clients because it gives homeowners peace of mind and allows us to deliver even greater value.”

He continued: “By helping our clients prevent losses before they happen, we are not only protecting their homes; we are protecting their families and futures.”

He added: “Ting is more than just a safety device—it is a key differentiator that sets SageSure apart in a crowded market. It’s the kind of innovation that makes us proud to represent SageSure.”

SageSure stated that this approach aligns with its focus on risk mitigation in high-exposure regions.

Expansion plans and national rollout

SageSure said the Ting fire prevention service will expand beyond Louisiana as part of its national strategy.

The company reported plans to broaden the offering based on initial feedback and deployment results.

Bob Marshall, Co-Founder and CEO of Whisker Labs, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with SageSure to bring Ting to even more homes.”

He added: “Ting has already been deployed to over 1 million homes and saved over 20,000 policyholders from potentially devastating fires.”

He continued: “This partnership not only helps keep families safe but also strengthens the relationship between policyholders, their insurance providers, and insurance representatives by offering a preventative, technology-driven solution.”
