First deployment of RTX electric apparatus in Arizona’s Navajo Nation

Rosenbauer America has announced the delivery of its RTX electric fire truck to the Navajo Nation Department of Fire & Rescue Services.

As reported by Rosenbauer, the vehicle will be stationed in Window Rock, Arizona, which serves as the capital of the Navajo Nation.

The Rosenbauer RTX is designed with an electric powertrain driven by two Volvo Penta motors and dual 66 kWh batteries.

The vehicle can operate primarily with zero emissions.

Additional features include an NH55 1500 GPM pump, a 500-gallon water tank, and an RM35 1250 GPM roof monitor.

Features adapted for rural terrains and long-range missions

The RTX incorporates all-wheel steering and pneumatic suspension with adjustable ride heights.

These capabilities are intended to support emergency responses across the Navajo Nation’s 27,000-square-mile area.

Many of the region’s roads are unpaved and are subject to snow and variable conditions.

Ernie Young, Western Regional Manager at Rosenbauer America, said: “The RTX is not just an electric fire truck; it’s a versatile, high-performance tool designed for challenging environments.”

Sustainability aligns with tribal environmental values

The selection of the RTX aligns with the Navajo Nation’s environmental focus.

The vehicle’s ability to operate with minimal emissions was highlighted as consistent with the Nation’s emphasis on harmony with nature.

The low vehicle entry height of 10 inches improves access and ergonomics for personnel on scene.

Other design considerations include a narrow 92.5-inch width and a 47.5-foot turning radius, both intended to improve accessibility in remote and constrained settings.

Industry exposure at FDIC International

Rosenbauer America will display the Navajo Nation’s RTX model at FDIC International in Indianapolis, Indiana, from April 10 to 12, 2025.

The company will host visitors at booth #3413 and is offering demonstrations for departments interested in evaluating the RTX.
