The Rio de Janeiro State Government inaugurated on 7 May 2025 a new modern urban firefighting training complexes in Brazil.
The Fire City of the Rio de Janeiro State Military Fire Department (CBMERJ) has approximately 1,500 m² of built area and is composed of five phases that reproduce real fire situations in buildings, such as residences and commercial establishments, tunnels and even underground garages.
The result of an investment of R$5 million by the State Government, the equipment was designed to offer a wide variety of activities and exercises.
Controlled burning allows military personnel to observe the behavior of fire and smoke, understand how fires develop and experience real flames in order to better manage resources in fighting fires.
The City of Fire operates as a set of classrooms in the form of Fire Development Simulators – SDI that can reach temperatures above 600 ºC.
The simulators place military personnel inside the scene, as close as possible to a real fire, all under the supervision, control and safety of trained and certified instructors.
The structures, assembled from adapted shipping containers, are located in the Coronel Sarmento Teaching and Training Complex in Guadalupe.
The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro is at the forefront of the national scenario in training and firefighting. The complex has five training phases, with increasing levels of difficulty and complexity.
The simulators are widely used because they are considered controlled environments, allowing military personnel to practice and perfect their skills in a safe and effective manner, highlighted the Secretary of State for Civil Defense and General Commander of CBMERJ, Colonel Tarciso Salles.
DynamicsInside the equipment, the soldiers are put to the test in situations with low visibility, high heat and smoke. The proposed exercises involve observing and attacking gas layers, fire progression, door passage, tactical ventilation, search and rescue of victims and fighting the flames, among others.
The students will be able to analyze the fire from its beginning to its peak and set up lines of action, including in challenging scenarios, with multiple rooms and floors.
