The Fire Department of the Metropolitan District of Quito, in Ecuador, has announced it attended an event held on on the weekend of the 17 May 2025 at the Casa Hacienda in Guápulo Park, where the Animal Welfare Unit (UBA) of Quito presented the photo book “Following the Footprint.”
The book features true stories of pets rescued by the UBA, who are now enjoying a new lease on life thanks to successful responsible adoption processes.
The event was attended by local authorities, organizations committed to animal welfare and caring citizens who have opened their homes to the rescued animals.
Among the attendees was Lieutenant Colonel Esteban Ernesto Cárdenas Varela, Chief of the Quito Metropolitan District Fire Department. He joined in this celebration of the city’s commitment to life and respect for animals.
During the event, emblematic cases were highlighted, such as that of Chaupi, an animal whose story symbolizes the positive impact of coordinated actions between public institutions and citizens.
Chaupi is also the image of the Quito Fire Department‘s Together Against Fire campaign.
The event not only paid tribute to animals and adopters but also intended to reaffirm the commitment of the Municipality of Quito, through the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).
Promoting responsible animal ownership, providing education on animal welfare and implementing sterilization and comprehensive care campaigns, especially targeting the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
