Quito firefighters in commemorate 81 years of service

On April 1, the Fire Department of the Metropolitan District of Quito celebrated 81 years of institutional life with the commemorative session at the Sucre National Theater in Equador.

This was an event that brought together authorities, diplomatic representatives, operational and administrative personnel, delegations of the country’s Fire Departments and special guests.

During the ceremony, “Fire Cross Third Class” and “Fire Cross Second Class” decorations were awarded to servants who completed 15 and 20 years of experience, respectively. Likewise, tribute was paid to the staff who took retirement, recognizing their commitment and years of service to the city.

At the event, an institutional video was projected that reflected the connection between the Fire Department and citizens, highlighting the value of teamwork, emergency response and community support.

Lt. Gen. Esteban Cárdenas Varela, Head of the Fire Department, shared a message highlighting the challenges faced, especially in the context of climate change.

Varela said: “The relationship between the Quito Fire Department and its citizens reflects a bond based on solidarity, empathy and philanthropy. Their work is not only focused on emergency response, but also on ongoing support to build a safer, more prepared and resilient community.

“Currently, about 80% of our servers hold third- and fourth-tier titles. This growth over the years has allowed us to improve the capacity and effectiveness of the institutional response to various adverse events and generate a positive impact on the city and its population. ”

Mayor, Metropolitan District of Quito, Pabel Muñoz’s statement

The Mayor of Quito, Pabel Muñoz, delivered a congratulatory agreement and reaffirmed the city’s support for the work of the Quito Fire Department, saying: “It is a very important night for the city because we celebrate one more year of this noble institution that we love so much for the signs of dedication that you have had.”

The ceremony ended with the singing of the Hymn to the Firefighter by those present and a renewed missionary commitment by the institution, which since 1944 has served with dedication, honor and passion to the people of Quito and the country.
