Quito Firefighters activate operational plan ahead of Carnival holiday

In order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the citizens of the Metropolitan District of Quito during the Carnival holiday, the Quito Fire Department has announced they will carry out a special operation during these festivities that will be in force from Friday, February 28 to Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Operation that aims to prevent and respond efficiently to any emergency that may arise due to the increase in mobility, the concentration of people in public spaces and in tourist events in the Metropolitan District.

The Quito Fire Department will have 262 personnel and emergency vehicles including ambulances, firefighting, rescue and logistics distributed in 26 stations that are strategically distributed in the Metropolitan District of Quito.

Features of the operational plan

Among the most relevant actions of the operation are:

• Monitoring of land terminals: Personel and emergency units will be deployed at the Quitumbe and Carcelén terminals, where a high influx of travelers is expected.
• Surveillance in tourist sites, swimming pools and municipal spas: Water rescue teams will be in Cunuyaca, El Tingo, Rumiloma, La Moya, while specialized mountain rescue units will provide security in the Cable Car sector.
• Coverage in parks and public spaces: Motorized personnel will carry out preventive patrols in areas of high attendance, such as the Historic Center, La Carolina, the Parque Metropolitano del Norte, Parque El Arbolito and Quito Metro stations.
• Strategic location of emergency vehicles: Pumps and rescue units will be positioned in Guayllabamba, Nanegalito, Av. Maldonado and roundabouts entering and exiting the city.

According to the risk analysis announced by the Quinto Fire Department, possible incidents such as traffic accidents, rains, fires, as well as people lost in mass events have been identified, for which response protocols have been reinforced and specialized personnel in pre-hospital care and rescue have been assigned to attend to these incidents.
