Pye-Barker Fire & Safety Expands Maryland Presence with CRIMPCO Acquisition

March 4, 2024

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety acquires CRIMPCO

On February 22, 2024, Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, known for its comprehensive fire protection, life safety, and security services, announced the acquisition of CRIMPCO, a prominent Baltimore-based security alarm and monitoring company.

This strategic move enhances Pye-Barker’s service capabilities across Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region.

It marks a significant extension of their fire protection services and broadens their customer base in the area.

CRIMPCO, a family-owned business since its inception in 1968, has a long-standing reputation for providing high-quality security solutions, including panic button systems, access control, CCTV, video monitoring, and fire alarms.

Its founder, Bob Jolson, together with his family and partners, has developed the company into a regional leader.

A family business joins a larger family

Bob Jolson, the founder of CRIMPCO, reflected on the acquisition: “When you are hired at CRIMPCO, you are a member of the family.

“While weighing the options of the next step for our company, our team’s future was top-of-mind.

“I’m confident that joining Pye-Barker is the best choice for them, our family and our customers.”

This sentiment of family and customer-centric values was echoed by Bart Proctor, CEO of Pye-Barker Fire & Safety.

Proctor said: “Like Pye-Barker, CRIMPCO and the Jolsons recognize the two keys to success: team and customers.

“Fostering a family-like, supportive company culture while upholding the highest standards of customer service has fueled CRIMPCO’s success and made them a great addition to our family.”

Commitment to continued service

The acquisition will not alter the operational structure of CRIMPCO, as the existing team will continue serving their customers in the region.

This continuity ensures that the high standards of service and customer care that CRIMPCO is known for will remain unchanged.

The transaction was skillfully coordinated by Philip Gardner, President of B Safe, which merged with Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in 2022.

Barry Epstein of Vertex Capital represented CRIMPCO in the transaction, ensuring a smooth transition for both companies.

FSJA Comment

The acquisition of CRIMPCO by Pye-Barker Fire & Safety represents a strategic expansion in the fire and safety sector.

By integrating CRIMPCO’s well-established presence in the Baltimore area, Pye-Barker not only consolidates its position as a leading provider of fire protection, life safety, and security services but also demonstrates the importance of maintaining a family-oriented business culture in corporate expansions.

This move is expected to enhance the service offerings in the Mid-Atlantic region, benefiting both existing and future customers.

It highlights the ongoing trend of consolidation in the industry, where companies are seeking to broaden their service portfolios and regional footprints through strategic acquisitions.

This particular acquisition, facilitated by a shared emphasis on team values and customer service, sets a positive precedent for future mergers and acquisitions in the sector.
