The second, in November 2023 at the SODO facility, tragically led to the death of a dog named Georgie on I-5.
The causes of these fires, particularly the latter, are still under investigation.
Allison Scarborough, the owner of Georgie, expressed support for the bill: “I feel like they get it.
“I could not be more excited about the potential of this bill.” Since the incident, Scarborough has been advocating for increased safety measures in kennels and boarding facilities.
She views the bill as a positive step towards transparency and enhanced standards in the industry.
The proposed legislation also aims to foster transparency within the pet boarding industry.
It requires businesses to inform customers if their kennel license has been revoked or suspended and mandates the display of such information in a visible area for customers.
“If you have no violations that you have to put out to the public and you don’t have a suspended license that you have to disclose, that’s a bragging right.
“That an asset for a business,” Scarborough stated, highlighting the dual benefit of compliance for business reputation and pet safety.
