Prevention Week has been developed throughout the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil, with the 1st and 6th Military Firefighter Battalions promoting educational and operational actions.
In addition to this, the rapprochement between the Minas Gerais Military Fire Department and the community was promoted, intended to reinforce resilience.
In Mariana, the Forest Brigade Training Course was held for City Hall employees, from 24 to 27 June, training 12 new firefighters with theoretical classes on the principles of vegetation fire and practices for fighting flames, creating firebreaks and maintaining tools.
Editions of the Firefighters in Schools project were also held at the following institutions: Professora Santa Godoy Municipal School (Mariana), Dona Reparata Dias de Oliveira State School (Cachoeira do Brumado), Sinhô Machado Municipal School (Santa Rita Durão) and Aníbal de Freitas Municipal School (Cachoeira do Brumado), providing guidance on first aid, fighting fires and preventive measures.
On the 25 June, under the coordination of the fire department, a fire drill involving structural collapse was conducted.
The activity included the participation of municipal security forces, SAMU and the Military Police. During the drill, the operations command system was used to structure the dynamics of the incident, enabling the rescue of the six victims and the extinguishing of the fire.
On the 27th, a lecture was given to businesspeople from the Ouro Preto Commercial and Business Association (ACEOP) on building risk classification and the process of obtaining a building certificate (AVCB).
Closing the activities, on the 28 June, the barracks hosted the 8th Ouro Preto Scout Group, with workshops on first aid, knots and lashings, rappelling and demonstrations of vehicles and equipment.
The 6th Military Firefighter Battalion (6th BBM), based in Governador Valadares, held a diverse program throughout Prevention Week 2025.
The opening ceremony featured religious celebrations, including a Mass and a Thanksgiving service, moments of faith and gratitude for the journey and mission of firefighters.
Throughout the week, several activities mobilized military personnel and civil society.
At the Open House event, the 6th BBM welcomed visitors to its headquarters, offering demonstrations of materials, equipment, and vehicles, as well as practical workshops on operational techniques.
Additionally, a traditional July 2 Tournament was held, an internal competition that involved operational platoons and the administrative sector in endurance and skill tests, divided into land, water, fire and sports stages, promoting team spirit and the appreciation of technical skills.
A blood donation campaign was also held during the week, reinforcing the corporation’s social commitment and encouraging solidarity among the people of Valadares.
To recognize those who contributed to the unit’s history, the Veterans’ Café was held. The morning featured breakfast served at the Battalion headquarters.
The program also included the official ceremony for National Firefighter Day, held in front of the barracks, with a parade of troops and vehicles, in addition to the presentation of decorations to military personnel and veterans.
This was a civic moment of recognition of the importance of the military firefighter activity and the distinguished trajectories within the corporation.
Closing the week with celebration and popular participation, the 3rd Arraiá do Fogo brought together family members, guests and military personnel in a lively June party, with traditional foods, square dancing and a fun bingo game.
On Sunday 6 July, the city hosted the 7th edition of the Corrida do Fogo, a sporting event that brought together more than 2,000 runners on a route through the streets of Governador Valadares.
