The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will hold a public hearing on its proposed Emergency Response Standard starting November 12.
As reported by the National Volunteer Fire Council, OSHA recently confirmed the receipt of Notices of Intention to Appear (NOITA) by email to individuals who had submitted their intention before the September 27 deadline.
Those who received confirmation will be notified of their specific time to testify within the coming weeks.
OSHA expects the hearing to span 2-4 weeks due to the 500 NOITAs received, and it will occur on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time, with a scheduled break during the week of Thanksgiving.
OSHA’s NOITA acknowledgement emails were sent from osha.emergency.response@dol.gov.
If you submitted an intention to appear and did not receive an email, OSHA advises checking your spam folder or ensuring that you are reviewing the email account provided in your submission.
If confirmation is still missing, OSHA recommends contacting them directly at the same email address for further assistance.
All individuals who submitted an NOITA will be granted a timeslot to provide testimony at the upcoming hearing.
The hearing, scheduled to begin November 12, will be conducted virtually on weekdays, running from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Based on the high volume of NOITAs, OSHA anticipates that the hearing will last between 2 and 4 weeks.
The public hearing will pause for the Thanksgiving holiday, ensuring participants have time off during that week.
OSHA has structured the hearing to accommodate all testimonies, with each participant receiving an individual timeslot to address the proposed Emergency Response Standard.
Participants in the public hearing will be able to present their testimony on the proposed Emergency Response Standard.
OSHA’s hearings typically allow for oral presentations to support or contest proposed regulations.
Those who plan to testify should be prepared for their designated time and are encouraged to carefully review their NOITA confirmation email for details on their scheduled appearance.
If any issues arise, participants should contact OSHA for guidance on rescheduling or confirming their timeslot.
