Demonstrations included the use of vessels, search and rescue technologies, and specialized equipment for emergencies such as landslides and floods.

Interactive workshops offered first aid training, health guidance, and an alert siren demonstration.

Expanded rescue capabilities unveiled

This year’s operation includes modernized resources such as 43 new inflatable rescue boats from Europe and two advanced drones equipped with megaphones and searchlights with a precision range of 900 meters.

Jet skis equipped with medical services will be deployed throughout the season, enabling faster care for swimmers in need.

Colonel Tarciso Salles, Secretary of State for Civil Defense and General Commander of CBMERJ, noted: “Last year alone, we carried out more than 12,600 rescues during this time of year, including 8,000 in the capital.”

Training and public engagement activities

The event celebrated the graduation of a new class of lifeguards and featured live demonstrations of sea rescues using boats, jet skis, and aircraft.

Children participated in educational activities, including a climbing wall, rope obstacle courses, and a rigging workshop. Attendees praised the initiative.

Administrator Maria Cristina Mendonça Gomes said: “I found it interactive and innovative.

Congratulations to everyone.” Chef José Alberto, who attended with his son, commented: “Being here today is a dream come true.”
