NVFC offers travel stipends for volunteer first responders

February 6, 2024

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has announced the availability of travel stipends for volunteer first responders wishing to attend the 2024 NVFC Training Summit.

This initiative aims to make quality training more accessible by reimbursing up to $800 of conference-related expenses.

The summit is scheduled to take place from June 21-22 in Buffalo, NY, covering topics critical to first responders, including health and safety, recruitment and retention, and leadership development.

Eligibility for these stipends requires membership in the NVFC, and applications must be submitted by February 1, with notifications of acceptance to be sent out by February 20.

This financial support covers various expenses, including hotel accommodation within the conference block, transportation costs, and registration fees, although it does not extend to meals or additional expenses.

Benefits of attending the 2024 NVFC Training Summit

The 2024 NVFC Training Summit presents an invaluable opportunity for emergency responders from across the United States to engage in classroom training, share best practices, and network with peers.

Participants can select from a range of breakout sessions across three learning tracks tailored to address the most pressing topics in first responder health, safety, leadership, recruitment, and retention.

Adding to the summit’s appeal, the event will feature general sessions, keynote speeches, and networking opportunities, creating a comprehensive learning and development experience.

By incorporating the NVFC’s Recruitment & Retention Experience into the summit, the council has expanded the event’s scope, offering a broader array of courses to benefit more first responders.

Understanding the stipend details

The 2024 NVFC Training Summit Travel Stipends are designed to alleviate the financial burden of attending the conference, reimbursing up to $800 for eligible expenses.

These expenses include up to three nights of hotel accommodation at a special conference rate, round-trip airfare, cab or shuttle fares, and the conference registration fee.

However, attendees should note that rental car expenses are not covered and that they will be responsible for their own meals and any additional costs exceeding the stipend’s limits.
