NVFC fire helmet giveaway closes soon for U.S. volunteer firefighters

June 25, 2025

Five days remain to enter June fire helmet giveaway

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has reminded members that the June entry period for its MSA Cairns 1836 fire helmet giveaway will close on June 30.

According to the NVFC, active volunteer firefighters in the United States who are NVFC members must enter by the end of the month to be considered.

The June window marks the second of four giveaway rounds planned in 2025.

One eligible entrant will be selected at random to receive a personalized MSA Cairns 1836 helmet.

The NVFC said the initiative forms part of its ongoing collaboration with MSA Safety to improve access to protective equipment for responders.

Fire helmet features focus on safety and maintenance

The NVFC said the MSA Cairns 1836 helmet combines a traditional look with updated performance features.

It is lightweight, with a low-profile design and an adjustable ratchet system intended to suit the majority of head shapes and sizes.

The helmet’s components are designed to be removed and cleaned without tools, in alignment with NFPA 1851 care guidelines.

It includes a washable chinstrap and interior materials, along with a Defender visor that fits over eyewear and can be operated while wearing gloves.

The helmet’s Shell Release System is intended to retain the impact cap on the user’s head if the outer shell is dislodged during a fall or impact event.

According to the NVFC, the helmet is approved under NFPA 1971 standards for structural firefighting.

Entry requirements for eligible firefighters

To take part, individuals must be active volunteer firefighters in the United States and members of the NVFC.

The NVFC said members are limited to one entry per period, and past recipients cannot re-enter.

It added that those selected agree to allow their names, images, and entry information to be used in public materials from the NVFC and MSA.

Membership details and entry forms are available on the NVFC website.

Entries for the June draw must be submitted by 11:59 PM on June 30.

Upcoming entry periods and selection process

The NVFC confirmed that one firefighter is selected at random following the close of each entry window.

Winners are contacted directly before a public announcement is made.

In addition to the current June draw, two more opportunities to enter will be available in August and November.

The NVFC said the giveaway will continue throughout 2025 as part of its partnership with MSA Safety.

About the NVFC and MSA initiative

The NVFC stated that its collaboration with MSA Safety aims to support volunteer firefighters by offering access to up-to-date safety equipment.

The MSA Cairns 1836 fire helmet is part of that effort.

Available helmet colors include black, red, white, and yellow.

The organization encouraged eligible firefighters to enter before the June 30 deadline to be included in this round’s draw.
