The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is accepting nominations for the William J. Darley Lifetime Achievement Award, as reported by the NVFC.
Sponsored by Darley, this annual award recognizes individuals for their achievements in the fire service and their broader contributions to the community.
Nominees must have been volunteer firefighters for at least 20 years and meet specific criteria outlined by the NVFC. Posthumous nominations are also eligible.
Judging will evaluate contributions to the volunteer fire service, dedication to the profession, involvement in state firefighter associations, and community impact.
To qualify, nominees must have significant accomplishments in the fire service at local, state, or national levels.
They must also have the majority of their fire service experience within the United States and hold U.S. citizenship.
NVFC board members are ineligible for three years after their board service ends, and previous award recipients must wait 10 years before being reconsidered.
Nominees must also demonstrate their commitment to volunteer firefighting and community activities, showing a sustained record of service.
The recipient will be honored at a celebration during the NVFC’s spring conference in Alexandria, Virginia, on May 9, 2025.
This includes a trip for the awardee and a guest, complimentary conference registration, a personalized award, a one-year NVFC membership, and recognition in the organization’s history.
The awards celebration provides a platform to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of the recipient within the volunteer firefighting community.
The NVFC has set the nomination deadline for 5 p.m. EST on January 17, 2025.
