The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is set to honor its 2024 award recipients and Hall of Fame inductees at an upcoming awards banquet on May 10, 2024.
This event will occur during the Association’s Annual Seminar and Business and Leadership Conference in Wailea, Hawaii, as reported by NFSA.
The NFSA will present several distinguished awards at the banquet.
The Golden Sprinkler Award, NFSA’s highest accolade, will be bestowed on Steve Ulmer of APi Group for his lifelong dedication to promoting fire sprinklers and advancing the industry.
Ulmer began his career at 16 in the family business founded by his grandfather and has since held various influential roles within NFSA and related organizations.
The Russell P.
Fleming Technical Service Award will go to Mark Fessenden, noted for his global expertise in water-based fire protection systems.
Fessenden has been instrumental in developing standards for the industry and currently serves as the Vice Chair of NFSA’s Engineering and Standards Committee.
The Leadership in Public Safety Award will be awarded to Todd Short, the retiring Fire Marshal of Redmond, WA.
Chief Short has been pivotal in advocating for residential fire sprinkler systems, culminating in a significant ordinance passed in 2007 that made Redmond the first city in Washington to require such systems.
Short commented on his experience: “It took more than a year to pass the ordinance, with many stakeholders involved in the effort.”
The 2024 NFSA Hall of Fame will include several individuals who have devoted their careers to the fire sprinkler industry.
Inductees Buck Buchanan of Victaulic, Gregg Huennekens of United States Alliance Fire Protection, and Jay Livingston of Livingston Fire Protection have been instrumental in supporting NFSA’s mission throughout their professional lives.
NFSA President Shane Ray expressed his appreciation for the inductees’ dedication: “It is an honor to recognize those who have given so much to improve their profession and fulfill the mission of NFSA.
“We are blessed to have so many dedicated individuals devoted to life safety. We are proud of them all.”
The upcoming NFSA awards banquet not only celebrates individual achievements but also underscores the collective effort within the fire safety industry towards enhancing life safety.
The recognition of these professionals helps maintain high standards within the field and inspires continuous contribution and innovation.
