New appointments to NFPA standards council

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Board of Directors has appointed three new members to the NFPA Standards Council: Guy Colonna of FSL Consulting LLC, Raymond Grill of Ray Grill Consulting PLLC, and John LeBlanc of Factory Mutual.

Additionally, Randy Krause was reappointed to a second three-year term. Jeffrey Foisel’s appointment was extended for three years, and Rodger Reiswig’s appointment was extended for one year.

These appointments, which began on January 1, 2025, reflect the ongoing development and oversight of NFPA standards, critical to fire and safety operations.

Background on Guy Colonna

Guy Colonna brings extensive experience to the council following a 34-year career with NFPA.

Colonna, a former U.S. Coast Guard engineer, was responsible for overseeing committee projects on maritime fire protection and industrial hazards.

Currently, he serves as a principal member of NFPA technical committees focusing on safe practices for hot work and confined spaces, among others.

Colonna holds degrees from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Stanford University and is a registered chemical engineer in Massachusetts.

Raymond Grill’s extensive expertise

Raymond Grill, principal of Ray Grill Consulting PLLC, is licensed as both a fire protection and mechanical engineer in multiple states.

With over 40 years of fire protection engineering experience, Grill has chaired numerous NFPA technical committees, including NFPA 13 and NFPA 101.

A lifetime NFPA member and past president of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, Grill also serves as an NFPA 72 instructor.

John LeBlanc’s longstanding contributions

John LeBlanc, a senior engineering technical specialist at Factory Mutual, has 40 years of experience in fire protection engineering.

LeBlanc oversees the development of FM’s loss prevention guidelines on ignitable liquids, aerosol products, and explosion protection systems.

He holds degrees from Case Western Reserve University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute and currently serves on 15 NFPA committees.
