The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will add the names of 204 firefighters to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial during a tribute weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
The 45th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend is scheduled for May 2–3, 2026.
Located on the National Emergency Training Center campus, the congressionally established monument serves as the official national memorial for firefighters who died in the line of duty.
The NFFF hosts the annual event to bring families, fire service leaders and government officials together for remembrance ceremonies.
This year the Roll of Honor includes 97 firefighters lost in 2025 and 107 individuals from previous years.
National Fallen Firefighters Foundation CEO Victor Stagnaro said: “The loss of these 204 fallen firefighters is felt most deeply by the families and loved ones left behind.
“They were parents, partners, colleagues and friends who will forever be remembered for their bravery and their devotion to duty.
“During the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, we will add their names to the National Memorial, ensuring they are remembered by a grateful nation.”
The NFFF will livestream two public ceremonies on its website and social media channels during the memorial weekend.
A candlelight service is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET.
The formal memorial service will take place on Sunday, May 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET.
Troy Markel, Chair of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Board of Directors, noted the event provides an opportunity for collective reflection.
Markel said: “For 45 years, this weekend has allowed us to collectively pause to reflect and remember those who always answered the call to protect our communities without hesitation.
“As we honor their lives, this moment is also about giving their families and departments our unwavering support.
“We stand tall beside them with gratitude and respect.
“Their Fire Hero will never be forgotten.”
The foundation has organized several national participation events including the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters tribute.
Prominent landmarks and firehouses in all 50 states will illuminate red in remembrance of the fallen.
Participating institutions may also take part in Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters on both days of the event.
Fire departments are invited to sound their sirens simultaneously at noon on Sunday.
Federal buildings will lower the American flag to half-staff on May 3 to coincide with the ceremonies.
