Newfoundland and Labrador is investing more than $630,000 in a new fire protection vehicle and firefighting equipment for volunteer departments serving communities in Conception Bay North.
The funding, announced by Forestry, Agriculture and Lands Minister Pleaman Forsey in South River, will support the purchase of a tanker/two-door fire truck for the Bay de Grave Volunteer Fire Department, as well as equipment for the Conception Harbour Volunteer Fire Department and the Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview Fire Department.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Government said the investment is intended to strengthen fire protection services in the southern region of Conception Bay North, improve emergency response capabilities, and support volunteer firefighters working to protect residents and communities.

Forsey was joined at the announcement by Justice and Public Safety Minister Helen Conway Ottenheimer, who is also MHA for Harbour Main, Bay de Grave Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jim Edmunds, and representatives from the Conception Harbour and Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview volunteer fire departments.
Forsey said volunteer firefighters need reliable resources to respond safely and effectively when emergencies occur.
“Our province’s volunteer firefighters are ready to respond to any and all emergencies whenever the need arises,” Forsey said. “We have to ensure they are well equipped and prepared to do so safely and effectively. I am pleased to announce funding for resources that will help our volunteer firefighters support their communities and do their important jobs.”
The investment forms part of Budget 2026, which provides more than $7 million to support volunteer fire departments through equipment, supplies, and training. The Provincial Government said additional support for firefighting resources in other regions of Newfoundland and Labrador will be announced soon.
Ottenheimer said the funding would make a significant difference for fire departments in the Harbour Main district.
“Our volunteer firefighters are the backbone of our communities, and equipping them with the necessary tools is vital,” Ottenheimer said. “Bay de Grave Volunteer Fire Department receiving a new two-door fire truck will be a game-changer for their ability to protect the region.”
She added that equipment funding for Conception Harbour and Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview would also support their emergency response work.
