Captain Lina María Marín Rodríguez was sworn in as the new Director General of the Colombian National Fire Department (DNBC) during a ceremony.
The event took place in the Horacio Serpa Auditorium at La Giralda House, headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and was presided over by the Minister of the Interior, Dr. Armando Benedetti Villaneda.
The event was attended by national government officials, members of the National Firefighters Board, departmental delegates, fire department commanders from different regions of the country, officers, non-commissioned officers, administrative staff and contractors from both the Ministry of the Interior and the DNBC.
Captain Lina María Marín Rodríguez, who has a career in the public sector and the firefighting industry, assumes the leadership of the DNBC with the commitment to legally, operationally and morally represent the more than 25,000 women and men who make up the National Firefighter System.
During the ceremony, the Minister of the Interior emphasized the strategic importance of this entity, especially in the face of the winter season and the operational challenges facing the country.
Dr. Benedetti said: “I entrust the good management of the Fire Department to you. I hope you are able to correct some of the structural and management flaws we have identified. You have the resources and the implementation; now comes the action.
“I am confident that you will succeed in modernizing the entity. You are essential to the community and have always been on the front lines of the response.”
In her speech, the new Director General expressed words of gratitude and commitment: “It is an honor to be appointed by the President of the Republic to lead this institution so beloved by all Colombians.
“I will fulfill this appointment with courage, leadership, and a deep commitment to service. I am proud and will be a woman who leads the Colombian National Fire Department with integrity, transparency and gallantry.”
Captain Marín Rodríguez stated that one of her main objectives will be to strengthen the National Fire System through efficient management of the National Fire Fund.
She will also focus on dignifying firefighting work, guaranteeing institutional support for all fire departments in the country, modernizing the entity’s internal processes and ensuring compliance with the commitments established in the National Development Plan.
The event concluded with a greeting from the regional representatives to the new management team.
