National Volunteer Fire Council supports EMS Week with valuable resources

May 22, 2024

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of EMS week

May 19-25 marks the 50th anniversary of EMS Week, themed “Honoring Our Past, Forging Our Future,” as reported by the NVFC.

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) expressed gratitude to all EMS providers for their daily lifesaving work.

The council highlights the importance of remembering the past while striving for future excellence in community service.

NVFC offers a range of resources to focus on EMS during this week and beyond.

These resources aim to support and enhance the capabilities of EMS providers and ensure the continued excellence of services provided to communities.

NVFC EMS/Rescue section and recruitment strategies

The NVFC encourages individuals to join its EMS/Rescue Section.

Additionally, on May 22 at 2 pm ET, NVFC will host a live discussion titled “Answering the Call – Volunteer EMS Recruitment & Retention Strategies.”

This roundtable aims to provide effective strategies and innovative approaches to maintain a robust volunteer EMS force.

The Make Me A Firefighter Department Portal is another initiative by the NVFC to aid in the recruitment of EMS, fire, and rescue personnel.

This portal offers resources such as a materials generator for customizable outreach, an online database for posting open volunteer positions, and ready-to-use public service announcements.

Support programs and pediatric readiness

The NVFC’s Share the Load program offers support for EMS providers facing challenging calls.

This program includes resources like the NVFC First Responder Helpline and the Directory of Behavioral Health Professionals, aimed at providing necessary assistance and support.

The National Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project is an initiative that empowers EMS and fire-rescue agencies to improve their pediatric readiness.

An online assessment tool is available to help agencies determine their capability to care for children.

A video titled “Improving Prehospital Pediatric Care: Arlette’s Story” demonstrates the need for local agencies to be prepared for pediatric emergencies.

The NVFC continues to advocate for the advancement of EMS services through these initiatives and resources, ensuring that EMS providers are well-supported and prepared for the challenges they face.
