The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has reminded eligible individuals that today, December 9, is the final day to submit applications to serve as peer reviewers for grants managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Applicants selected as peer reviewers will evaluate submissions for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant, and Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grant programs.
To qualify, candidates must have a background in volunteer fire service, either as current or retired volunteers, career or volunteer chiefs of combination departments, or individuals working frequently with volunteer firefighters.
Applicants must also hold membership with the NVFC, possess advanced understanding of “all hazards” capabilities, and demonstrate broad knowledge in fire and emergency medical services.
Familiarity with FEMA grant programs is also required.
Peer reviewers can conduct evaluations virtually or in person.
In-person reviews occur at FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland, with travel and lodging costs covered by FEMA.
AFG application reviews are scheduled for the week of February 3, while SAFER and FP&S reviews will take place the week of March 31.
Interested individuals must submit their application form today to be considered.
Applications will be reviewed by both the NVFC national office and the NVFC state board member representing the applicant’s home state.
