MSA Safety, the global leader in safety product development and manufacturing, has announced an extended marketing partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team.
This partnership, revealed at the UPMC Mario Lemieux Sports Complex near Pittsburgh, will feature the MSA Safety brand on the team’s away-game helmets starting from the 2023-24 National Hockey League (NHL) season.
Building on a relationship formed in 2016, the new three-year agreement means the MSA Safety logo will be displayed on both sides of the Penguins players’ white helmets during road games.
This will continue throughout the regular 2025-26 season and into the playoffs.
“We’re very excited to be taking our partnership with the Penguins to a higher level,” expressed Nish Vartanian, MSA Safety Chairman and CEO.
He added that this move aims to extend MSA’s brand visibility across North America and even globally.
Apart from helmet branding, the sponsorship will also position the MSA brand on dasher boards within the PPG Paints Arena and via digital signage throughout the venue.
Kevin Acklin, Penguins President of Business Operations, voiced his support: “MSA makes the most technologically advanced safety equipment and gas detection systems available today.”
He noted the crucial role MSA products, including the V-Gard hard hat, play in protecting workers, especially firefighters and first responders.
By sponsoring the helmets, MSA Safety positions itself among the elite corporate partners of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Vartanian emphasized that both organizations, deeply rooted in Pittsburgh, uphold shared values of integrity and passion for excellence.
“We want MSA Safety to be the first name customers, investors and potential employees think of,” he stated, believing this collaboration will further enhance MSA’s profile.
Penguins fans can first see the MSA branded helmet in action on October 13, as the team faces off against the Capitals in Washington, D.C.
The partnership between MSA Safety and the Pittsburgh Penguins represents a significant merge of industries – sports and workplace safety.
MSA Safety’s decision to expand its visibility on a prominent platform like the NHL not only showcases its commitment to safety but also highlights its ambition to be a household name.
The alignment of values between the two entities, with roots in Pittsburgh, can further amplify the importance of safety, benefiting both fans of the sport and professionals in various industries.
It’s a strategic move that intertwines the essence of sportsmanship with workplace safety.
