Military personnel from Minas Gerais graduate the first class of the First Aid Course

March 24, 2025

On March 22, 2025, the 5th Independent Company of the Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais graduated the first class of the First Aid Course – Basic Level, in the city of Sete Lagoas.

The initiative aimed to train the local community to provide immediate and effective care to victims in urgent and emergency situations, before the arrival of health professionals or first responders from CBMMG and the course was attended by 40 participants.

Features of the training

The activity was taught by trained military personnel from the 5th Independent Company, following the criteria established by the internal doctrine of the Minas Gerais Military Fire Department.

The training covered, in a theoretical and practical manner, a series of fundamental topics for a quick and safe response in emergencies: scenario assessment, airway clearance, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques, use of the automated external defibrillator (AED), hemorrhage control, recognition of fractures and injuries, in addition to the management of clinical conditions such as syncope, convulsions and shock.

The training followed a didactic-pedagogical approach adapted for the lay public, focusing on simplicity, clarity and applicability of the content.

The objective was to provide participants with the development of practical skills that can save lives, even without technical training in the health area.

Students who met the attendance and performance requirements will receive a digital certificate issued by the Military Fire Department.

Prevalence of the training

This action not only trained the population, but also reaffirmed CBMMG’s commitment to promoting a culture of prevention, self-protection and collective responsibility, in accordance with the strategic axes of the current Command Plan.

The course directly aligns with the strategic objectives defined in the document, especially with regard to valuing life, expanding preventive care, strengthening the Corporation’s social actions and engaging the community in educational actions.

The course also has a positive impact on institutional indicators, such as the Index of Incentive to the Culture of Prevention and Protection of Life (IICPP), one of the performance measurement instruments adopted by CBMMG to assess the effectiveness of its actions in society.

By promoting the empowerment of the civilian population through knowledge, the Fire Department fulfills its mission in an even more comprehensive way, going beyond the operational response and acting as an agent for the formation of a culture of safety, prevention and solidarity.

Included in the scope of strategic institutional planning projects, this type of action reaffirms the priority given to training the population and the internalization of public life protection policies, fundamental pillars of the Corporation.

Offering the course in Sete Lagoas demonstrates, in practice, the ongoing effort to decentralize educational actions, bringing the Fire Department closer to society and allowing more people to be prepared to act in critical situations, where every second can be decisive.
