As reported by Bomberos Quito, the Puembo stadium hosted the Mega Forest Fire Prevention Fair “Juntos Contra el Fuego” on Saturday, August 17.
The fair, which aimed to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of forest fires, was part of a broader effort to engage with the community and reduce the fire incidence in the Metropolitan District of Quito.
The fair offered a diverse program that included educational workshops, demonstrations of firefighting equipment, and guidance on safe fire management practices.
The initiative targeted families, encouraging them to participate in activities designed to promote fire prevention across the region.
Since July, Bomberos Quito has increased its educational outreach efforts.
These efforts have focused particularly on rural parishes, where there has been heightened concern about forest fires.
More than 2,000 residents in 70 different sectors have engaged in various activities such as fairs, door-to-door visits, and collaborative community actions (mingas).
Bomberos Quito’s objective is to reduce forest fire incidents and safeguard the area’s natural environment.
The Mega Forest Fire Prevention Fair saw the involvement of several collaborating institutions.
These included the General Secretariat for Citizen Security and Risk Management, the Secretariat of the Environment, EPMAPS, EMASEO, AMC, and the Animal Welfare Unit (UBA).
Each of these organizations contributed their expertise through additional activities and demonstrations during the event.
Their participation reinforced the collective goal of educating the public on the importance of fire prevention in safeguarding the community and the environment.
Bomberos Quito extended an invitation to all citizens to take part in fire prevention efforts.
The message was clear: “Prevention is essential to protect our environment, preserve lives and care for the ecosystem.” The public was encouraged to learn and adopt preventive measures to help reduce the risk of forest fires and contribute to protecting the Metropolitan District of Quito’s flora and fauna.
