Over $20 million raised for wildfire recovery in Los Angeles

As reported by the California Community Foundation (CCF), Los Angeles County is recovering from wildfires and windstorms that have claimed at least 24 lives and displaced thousands of residents.

To support recovery efforts, CCF has raised over $20 million through its Wildfire Recovery Fund.

The fund aims to provide both immediate relief and long-term recovery services, particularly to vulnerable populations, including seniors, children, displaced workers and underserved communities.

“This is one of the most devastating crises Los Angeles has ever faced,” said Miguel Santana, President & CEO of CCF.

“An overwhelming amount of generosity and support has poured in from so many, proving that we are not alone and together we will bring our communities back.”

Contributions from individuals and organizations

Since activating the fund last week, CCF has received contributions from diverse sources.

Corporate and philanthropic partners donated approximately $17 million, while more than 20,500 individual donors contributed an average of $100 each, amounting to over $2 million.

Additionally, CCF’s philanthropic donors collectively provided nearly $1 million to expand the fund’s impact.

The foundation plans to announce its first round of grants to recipient organizations by the end of this week.

Focus on long-term recovery and underserved communities

CCF’s approach includes supporting critical needs such as economic recovery, health services, and aid to underserved communities.

Partnerships have been established to reach affected groups, such as the Black LA Relief & Recovery Fund with the California Black Freedom Fund, targeting historically Black neighborhoods like Altadena.

Other collaborations include efforts with the Pasadena Community Foundation in Eaton Canyon, the Community Foundation of the Valleys in Palisades, the Los Angeles Fire Foundation for first responders, and the Getty Foundation for impacted arts communities.

A legacy of disaster relief in California

CCF has a history of leading fire and disaster relief efforts across California since 2003.

The foundation’s focus on complementing immediate assistance with sustained recovery highlights its commitment to rebuilding communities affected by climate disasters.

The Wildfire Recovery Fund continues to mobilize resources to address the multifaceted needs of the region.
