The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) recognized the achievements of 82 members during a formal promotion ceremony on November 15, 2024, at the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center in Elysian Park.
According to LAFD, the event celebrated uniformed and civilian members who successfully completed the department’s rigorous promotion process.
City of Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin M. Crowley presided over the ceremony, stating: “I’m incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication displayed by each of these individuals as they step into their new roles.”
The ceremony highlighted promotions across various ranks, including Captain II, Captain I, Inspector I, Apparatus Operator, Engineer, and civilian positions.
Among those promoted were six individuals elevated to Captain II: James Duffy, Christopher Gibboney, Brian Hammond, Brett Kearns, David Kohl, and Ruben Torres.
Twenty-seven members achieved the rank of Captain I, including Jack Albert, Kameron Carlis, and Sarah Halpenny, while three members, Dreon Brown, Erik San Martin, and Joel Williams, were promoted to Inspector I.
The promotions reflect LAFD’s emphasis on professional growth and the preparation of personnel for expanded leadership responsibilities.
The event also acknowledged the promotion of 15 individuals to the role of Apparatus Operator, a position critical for ensuring effective deployment of firefighting resources.
Promoted members included Zane Archer, Edgar Garcia, and Adrian Torres.
Thirty members were promoted to Engineer, taking on specialized operational responsibilities. This group included Austin Audley, Evelyn Medina, and Keith Nyeholt.
These positions are instrumental in enhancing the department’s emergency response capabilities.
LAFD also celebrated the promotion of six civilian employees for their contributions to the department’s operations.
Promoted civilians included Lesley Jennifer Cornejo, Holly McGrath, and Alex Siquenza.
Their work supports the department’s overall mission, ensuring seamless functionality in areas like administrative and logistical operations.
