Los Angeles Fire Department announces award recipients

As reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the recipients of the 2023 Civilian Employee Recognition Awards have been announced.

These awards celebrate civilian employees who have demonstrated exceptional performance.

The Civilian Employee Recognition Committee (CERC), established in 1991, facilitates the recognition process.

At the end of each year, the Committee reviews nominations from the entire Department, conducts interviews, and performs background checks before recommending finalists to the Fire Chief.

Individual award recipients

Among the more than 300 non-sworn members of the Department, several were honored for their contributions.

Carr Oduro received the Fire Chief’s Award of Excellence for his professional and specialized skills.

The Fire Chief’s Group Award of Excellence was given to the Purchasing Section, which includes Carol Ruacho, Anna Areyan, and Kendrex Lundy.

Employees of the Year include Carol Ruacho (Clerical), Nicole Castro (Professional/Specialized Skills), and Oscar Jimenez (Shop Maintenance).

Special recognition and longevity awards

Several employees were also recognized with Certificates of Special Recognition.

Yvonne Reyes was honored for her professional and specialized skills, and Gregory Brown received recognition for his work in shop maintenance.

The Longevity Award was presented to Carlos Moreno for his long-term service in shop maintenance.

Ceremony and acknowledgments

The awards ceremony highlighted the dedication and hard work of these civilian employees.

The LAFD acknowledged their essential contributions to the Department’s mission of saving lives and protecting property.
