On February 29, 2024, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #9148 in La Mirada celebrated Fire Captain David Dombrowski of the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) by naming him Firefighter of the Year.
This accolade was awarded during the Law Enforcement and First Responder Appreciation event, attended by members of the VFW, California State Assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco, and colleagues from LACoFD.
During the ceremony, speakers highlighted Fire Captain Dombrowski’s dedication and service.
Assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco remarked: “Fire Captain Dombrowski’s commitment to our community and his profession is exemplary.
“His service, both as a firefighter and as a mentor in the community, sets a high standard for others to follow.”
Fire Captain Dombrowski has devoted 21 years to the LACoFD and has 33 years of experience as a first responder.
His current assignment is at Fire Station 49 in La Mirada, where he is recognized for his leadership, integrity, and compassionate care for others.
Beyond his fire service duties, he is actively involved in coaching a youth soccer team, traveling, and spending quality time with his daughter, who is pursuing a degree in Brain Sciences at the University of California Santa Barbara.
The award from VFW Post 9148 underscores the impact Fire Captain Dombrowski has had on his community and profession.
