A live home fire sprinkler demonstration will be held during the Fire Service Leader Conference at The Renaissance in Glendale, Arizona, at 3 p.m. on May 14, 2024.
This event is part of a North America-wide initiative by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) to highlight the importance of fire sprinklers in new homes and their role in enhancing safety.
The demonstration will be hosted by Lorraine Carli, President of HFSC and Vice President of Outreach and Advocacy at NFPA.
Carli will discuss the lethal nature of home fires and emphasize the crucial role that home fire sprinklers play in saving lives.
Zoe Susice, Senior Director of Research Amplification at the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), will present recent findings on the effectiveness of fire sprinklers and introduce new educational resources from ULRI’s Office of Research Experiences and Education.
Chief Josh Waldo, the incoming President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), will provide a live commentary during a side-by-side demonstration illustrating the effectiveness of sprinklers in combating fires.
Chief Brad Bradley from the Northwest Fire District will share insights from a recent incident where a home fire sprinkler system successfully extinguished a lithium-ion battery fire in Tucson.
The event will demonstrate the rapid escalation of unsprinklered home fires compared to those protected by sprinklers.
Attendees will witness first-hand how sprinklers can prevent the spread of fire and toxic smoke, allowing residents to safely evacuate and providing better protection for firefighters.
This demonstration is part of the IAFC Community Risk Reduction Leader Conference, expected to draw over 350 fire and life safety leaders.
The demonstration at the Fire Service Leader Conference showcases the effectiveness of home fire sprinkler systems in a vivid and practical manner.
By simulating real-life scenarios, the event highlights how quickly a fire can become deadly and demonstrates the life-saving potential of sprinklers.
This initiative also serves as an educational platform for fire safety leaders to disseminate knowledge and advocate for the adoption of fire sprinklers in new home constructions, reflecting a proactive approach to fire safety and community risk reduction.
