Full Circle Lithium launches FCL-X lithium-ion battery fire extinguisher

Full Circle Lithium Corp. announced the retail launch of its FCL-X lithium-ion battery fire extinguisher through a new non-exclusive partnership with one of the largest home improvement retailers in the United States, expanding nationwide consumer access to specialized battery fire protection products.

The company said the initial rollout will begin online through the retailer’s e-commerce platform, with potential plans for a phased expansion into select physical store locations across the U.S.

FCL said the launch represents a major milestone for the company as lithium-ion batteries become increasingly common in homes, powering devices such as smartphones, laptops, cordless power tools, e-bikes, scooters, electric lawn equipment and electric vehicles.

The FCL-X product line includes 3-liter, 2-liter and 1-liter extinguishers, along with a 20-ounce aerosol canister designed specifically to combat lithium-ion battery fires and help prevent re-ignition.

According to the company, traditional ABC fire extinguishers remain effective for common household fires involving wood, paper, liquids and electrical equipment, but lithium-ion battery fires can behave differently because of thermal runaway, which may cause fires to reignite after appearing extinguished.

Industry fire safety agencies have reported increasing numbers of lithium-ion battery-related fires in recent years. The Fire Department of New York reported 277 lithium-ion battery fires in 2024, following 268 incidents in 2023, according to figures cited by the company.

Carlos Vicens, CEO of Full Circle Lithium, said consumers increasingly need specialized fire protection as rechargeable batteries become more prevalent in households.

“If you already have a red ABC extinguisher in your home, you should also have a silver FCL-X extinguisher to help protect your family, property, and home from lithium battery fires,” Vicens said. “With lithium batteries now present in virtually every household device, consumers need modern fire protection solutions designed for these new risks.”

The company said the FCL-X extinguisher has undergone internal and external testing and was engineered to suppress re-ignition while offering consumer-friendly operation for homes, garages, workshops and charging or storage areas.

“This partnership marks a major step forward in public safety,” Vicens said. “Lithium-ion battery fires are becoming more frequent and severe, and until now, consumers have had limited access to a proven, effective extinguishing solution designed for these incidents.”
