The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) has shared how it received the donation of a new Type 3 engine from Philip Morris International (PMI) US business.
According to the LACoFD, this donation will directly enhance the LACoFD’s wildland firefighting capabilities and emergency response efforts in the foothills and surrounding high-risk wildfire areas, including Altadena.
Type 3 engines are specially designed for off-road use and steep terrain and essential in combatting wildfires and responding to other all-risk incidents such as mud and debris flows.
A meet and greet was held at LACoFD Fire Station 11 in the unincorporated community of Altadena on Thursday, July 31, 2025, to accept the donation.
Los Angeles County Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Lisa Rechsteiner, PMI U.S. Senior Manager, James Curry, PMI U.S. Regional Director, representatives from the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation and Fire Station 11 firefighters joined Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone for the event.
In a statement when announcing the news, the LACoFD said: “We extend our gratitude to PMI US business for their unwavering support of first responders and the community of Altadena.
