LACoFD Ninth annual Women’s Fire Prep Academy concludes

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) has shared how after six consecutive Saturdays of training, 49 participants have successfully completely the LACoFD and Women’s Fire League ninth annual Women’s Fire Prep Academy (WFPA) on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Features of the WFPA

The WFPA commenced on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Headquarters Training Center in unincorporated East Los Angeles with over 90 prospective candidates participating in the opening-day assessment, which tested candidates on their endurance and stamina.

Throughout the WFPA, participants gained a deeper understanding of the skills and fundamental responsibilities of what it takes to pursue a career in the fire service. Firefighters mentored participants on proper physical fitness techniques and hands-on skills with tools and equipment, including extension ladders, fire hose and rotary saws.

The WFPA also instilled in every participant a better sense of leadership, teamwork and situational problem-solving.

Speaking at the academy’s culmination, LACoFD Deputy Fire Chief Eleni Pappas commended the participants for accepting the challenge of joining the WFPA and rising to meet their best self. Each candidate was then presented with a certificate of completion.
