The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Assistant Fire Chief Derrick Chapman joined Third District Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, Justice, Care and Opportunities Department (JCOD) Director Judge Songhai Armstead (retired) on Friday 5 December to celebrate the second graduating cohort of the Los Angeles County Training Center Firefighter Training Program.
At the ceremony they were joined by family and friends of the second graduating class.
Participants received hands-on training in fire service, wildland and structural firefighting, emergency medical technician (EMT) training, job readiness and career certifications.
The program prioritizes individuals impacted by the justice care system, foster care system and veterans. They also received on-site room and board, life skills training, a monthly stipend and continuous supportive services.
Among the remarks, graduating class speakers shared how this training program has been a meaningful addition to their life’s journey.
The LACoFD shared its congratulations to the 14 graduates for their steadfast commitment to their future careers in public service!
