The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has announced the appointment of Kelly Ransdell as the new director of its Public Education division.
As reported by the NFPA on May 14, 2024, Ransdell will manage public education messaging, program development, and implementation.
She will also serve as the primary public education expert for the association.
Lorraine Carli, vice president of Outreach and Advocacy at NFPA, said: “Kelly is a seasoned professional with a track record of advancing fire and life safety public education at the national, state, and local level.
“Along with her boundless passion, dedication, and energy, Kelly’s knowledge and experience will play an invaluable role in furthering our public education messages and information.”
Ransdell has been recognized as a national expert in public education throughout her career.
She most recently served as the NFPA regional director for the South Central United States for the past four years.
Before this role, she was an NFPA regional specialist, covering 17 states over five years.
Prior to joining NFPA in 2015, Ransdell worked as the deputy director of the North Carolina Department of Insurance – Office of State Fire Marshal.
There, she oversaw the Prevention, Programs, and Grants Division for nearly 15 years.
Additionally, she was the state director of Safe Kids North Carolina, managing 42 coalitions across 72 counties for 11 years.
Ransdell’s association with NFPA began in 2007 when she started working as an NFPA public education advisor in 11 states.
She was also a member of the NFPA 1035 committee, providing technical assistance for national fire prevention standards.
She is highly regarded in the public education community and is expected to collaborate with fire and life safety professionals to enhance safety through effective public education information and programs.
