Chris Bontempo has been appointed as the new Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Johnson Controls, a company known for its commitment to creating smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings.
The announcement was made on May 7, 2024, highlighting Bontempo’s new role in steering the company’s marketing strategies to foster demand generation and elevate brand equity.
This strategic move involves market development, research, and planning efforts across Johnson Controls’ global enterprise.
Bontempo brings a wealth of experience from IBM, where he served for nearly two decades in various roles, most recently as the chief marketing & communications officer for the Americas.
In this role, he was instrumental in leading marketing initiatives across the United States, Canada, and Latin America.
His responsibilities included overseeing marketing-sourced revenue, demand generation, and the management of marketing teams.
In his new position, Bontempo will report directly to George Oliver, Chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls.
He will also join the executive team and collaborate closely with corporate businesses and functions to enhance market share in products, systems, and services.

Bontempo is well-prepared for his new role with an educational background from Columbia Business School, where he earned a Master of Business Administration.
He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in European Studies from Amherst College.
