Relief efforts assist fire fighters affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton

As reported by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), the IAFF Foundation has distributed $150,500 in financial aid to 177 members whose homes were significantly damaged by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

This financial relief was made possible through donations from various supporters.

General President Edward Kelly stated: “When IAFF members go out the door, the IAFF Foundation is right behind them.

“We’re committed to our mission – providing members with the support and resources they need – so that they can focus on their critical mission: Keeping the public safe in an emergency.”

Support for the initiative also came from the Fire Family Foundation, the charitable branch of Firefighters First Credit Union, which contributed $62,000 to assist those affected by the storms.

Fire Family Foundation and local unions bolster relief efforts

The Fire Family Foundation’s donation was part of a broader collaborative effort.

Dixie Abramian, president and CEO of Firefighters First Credit Union, remarked: “Being able to donate over $62,000 to help fire fighters and their families displaced by the recent hurricanes is a perfect example of why we exist.”

In addition to this contribution, other donors played key roles.

The Florida Professional Firefighters donated $15,000, while Miami-Dade Local 1403 and Broward County Local 4321 each provided $10,000 to the IAFF Foundation’s relief efforts.

This collaborative financial support underscores the shared commitment to ensuring that affected fire fighters and their families receive assistance during challenging times.

IAFF Foundation supports fire fighters beyond disaster relief

The IAFF Foundation’s impact extends beyond disaster relief.

It also supports programs addressing behavioral health, burn injuries, and cancer research.

Scholarships for survivors of fallen members and the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial are additional initiatives funded by the organization.

“The IAFF Foundation always shows up,” Kelly added. “That’s the promise we make to our members and their families. In this union, someone always has your back.”

These programs highlight the foundation’s holistic approach to supporting fire fighters and their families across North America.

Donations highlight the importance of community support

The IAFF Foundation emphasized that its ability to provide meaningful relief is rooted in the generosity of its donors.

Contributions from individuals, unions, and organizations enable the foundation to fulfill its mission of assisting fire fighters during emergencies and beyond.

The ongoing support ensures that those who dedicate their lives to public safety have a reliable safety net when they face personal or professional challenges.
