The International Association of Fire Chiefs’ Volunteer & Combination Officers Section (IAFC VCOS) has announced the adoption of its updated Strategic Direction, intended to reflect its commitment to advancing leadership, education and support for volunteer and combination fire departments nationwide.
This initiative was developed through a comprehensive process that engaged stakeholders and analyzed emerging challenges in the fire service.
The VCOS Board of Directors led the effort to refine priorities, ensuring alignment with the evolving needs of the IAFC members and the communities they serve.
Expanding access to leadership development programs and operational best practices tailored to volunteer and combination departments while continuing to provide the essential training and continuing education that leaders need to ensure safety, enhance performance and advance their organizations.
VCOS will focus on expanding subject matter expertise, implementing a comprehensive marketing plan, strengthening collaboration with our partners and sponsors, growing membership through a dedicated committee and advocating for FirstNet support to enhance communication and safety within the fire service.
VCOS will focus on strengthening collaboration through regular engagement and exploring the development of a national framework for combined fire services. This framework guides and supports departments as they integrate, ensuring seamless operations, strong leadership and alignment with legislative requirements.
