US Navy certifies Fomtec Enviro MIL fluorine-free foam for military use

According to Dafo Fomtec AB, the United States Department of the Navy has confirmed that Enviro MIL conforms to type 3 requirements under MIL-PRF-32725(2) for fluorine-free foam concentrates.

The approval was issued on April 1 and applies to fire extinguishing agents intended for land-based, freshwater use.

Fomtec stated that Enviro MIL will be added to the Qualified Products List QPL-32725.

Once listed, it will be available in 5, 55 and 265 gallon containers.

AFFF 3M remains available under MIL-PRF-84385F specification

Fomtec confirmed that it continues to supply AFFF 3M products that meet the MIL-PRF-84385F specification for fire suppression.

According to Fomtec, its AFFF 3M is fully compatible with other concentrates that meet the same military standard.

The company stated that it will continue to produce and provide AFFF and other PFAS-based foams as long as regulations permit.

Foam options remain available for users of both freshwater and saltwater systems

While the Enviro MIL foam is approved for land-based, freshwater operations, Fomtec noted that not all users may be ready or able to switch to fluorine-free formulations.

For those continuing to use AFFF with saltwater or under legacy systems, Fomtec will maintain its supply of approved products.

This approach allows operators to choose formulations based on operational conditions and legal obligations.
